Flow induced vibration and smart control of elastically coupled double-nanotube-systems (CDNTSs) are investigated based on Eringen’s nonlocal elasticity theory and Euler-Bernoulli beam model. The CDNTS is considered to be composed of Carbon Nanotube (CNT) and Boron-Nitride Nanotube (BNNT) which are attached by Pasternak media. The BNNT is subjected to an applied voltage in the axial direction w...

smart home is composed of several controllers with different plants in control. if each controller works independently, without considering the mutual effect of the others in the control process, the whole system could definitely not converge to an optimum desired status and may not ever reach the demanded condition. the function of different controller system may has conflict in some condition...

Smart Morphable Surfaces enable switchable and tunable aerodynamic drag reduction of bluff bodies. Their topography, resembling the morphology of golf balls, can be custom-generated through a wrinkling instability on a curved surface. Pneumatic actuation of these patterns results in the control of the drag coefficient of spherical samples by up to a factor of two, over a range of flow conditions.

Using harmonic differential quadrature (HDQ) method, nonlinear vibrations and instability of a smart composite cylindrical shell made from piezoelectric polymer of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) reinforced with boron nitride nanotubes (BNNTs) are investigated while clamped at both ends and subjected to combined electro-thermo-mechanical loads and conveying a viscous-fluid. The mathematical mode...

surge and rotating stall phenomena are two dynamic instabilities that occur in both axial and centrifugal compressors. surge is the stream instability phenomenon in compressor that imposes severe damages to the compressors. nowadays, suppressing surge phenomenon is one of the most important issues in oil and gas industries, especially when flow reduction or gas reflux is considered. this resear...

Does chance have a role in intelligent environments? In this work-inprogress paper we argue that chance and non-deterministic behaviour can play a fundamental and important role in intelligent environments. We discuss how this behaviour can be both destructive and constructive. Underpinning our ideas is the view that intelligent environments may be seen as a complex system of interacting servic...

The increasing complexity of the conventional grid due to population growth, advancement in technology, and infrastructures are the factors that contribute immensely to instability, insecurity, and inefficiency of the use of electrical energy. To overcome the problems, the environmental energy sustainability calls for the use of renewable energy for sustainability of power supply. Intermittency...

For spacecraft with large flexible antennas, andor flexible support structures, suppressing vibrations caused by on-orbit operational disturbances (e.g., antenna slew maneuvers and thruster firings) is a challenging problem. In the past several years, advances in smart structure technologies have made their use in real-time dynamic control cif a structure possible. This paper discusses analytic...

In this paper, we propose a read SNM model which considers soft oxide breakdown (SBD). It makes use of a resistance for modeling the soft oxide breakdown which adds two terms to the original model expression for the read SNM. The accuracy of the model is verified by comparing its predictions with those of HSPICE simulations for 45, 32, and 22 nm technologies. The comparison reveals a very good ...

Motion Control of Smart Material Based Actuators: Modeling, Controller Design and Experimental Evaluation Sining Liu, Ph.D. Concordia University, 2013 Smart material based actuators, such as piezoelectric, magnetostrictive, and shape memory alloy actuators, are known to exhibit hysteresis e ects. When the smart actuators are preceded with plants, such non-smooth nonlinearities usually lead to p...
